Extract from Hunts Post in 1945: OFFORD
PILOT It was with deep regret that Offord learned on Thursday that the parents of Plight Sergeant William Adderley Fowler, aged 21, had been informed that he had been accidentally killed in the performance of his duties as a pilot in the Middle East. Sgt. Fowler was a quiet, unassuming lad, well-liked by everybody, and had undoubtedly a bright career before him. He was educated at Offord Council School and gained a special place at Huntingdon Grammar School. Leaving there he served on the staff of the County Library until July, 1942, when he volunteered for service in the R.A.F. and was accepted for flying duties. He was trained in Canada and in the U.S.A., and on being awarded his wings, returned home in October, 1944. Subsequently he was posted to Coastal Command. Middle East, where he continued to serve until his death. |
