TUDDENHAM ST MARTIN WAR MEMORIAL

The memorial is to be found within the church of St Martin's, Tuddenham St Martin. It takes the form of a white marble plaque with 1914-1918 enclosed in a wreath. There are 15 names for World War 1 and 5 for World War 2. The memorial was unveiled by Brigadier-general S E Massey-Lloyd 25th July 1920 and re-unveiled 25th May 1949. Details of the original unveiling can be found in the East Anglian daily Times 5th August 1920.

A separate plaque in the church records that Private Parker died of wounds received at the Battle of Neuve Chapelle on 12/03/1915

Rifleman 6031828, 1st Battalion, The London Irish Rifles, Royal Ulster Rifles. Died 18/07/1943. Age 30. Son of Ernest Robert and Mable Ellen Felgate, husband of Muriel Florence May Felgate of Ipswich. Buried at Catania War Cemetery, Sicily. Rifleman Felgate is also commemorated on the Rushmere St Andrew War Memorial

GARROD

Robert John

Sergeant (Wireless Operator/Air Gunner) 910169, 10 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Died 06/09/1941. Age 26. Son of George and Jessie Garrod of Tuddenham. Buried at Oldebroek General Cemetery. During the early months of the Second World War, 10 Squadron carried out leaflet-dropping raids over Germany flying Whitleys. The more modern Halifax arrived in late 1941, and these stayed with 10 Squadron throughout the remainder of the War as part of Bomber Command's heavy bomber force

Wing Commander 35043, Royal Air Force. Died 12/01/1942. Buried at Basra War Cemetery.
