SWILLAND WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 & 2 - Roll of Honour with detailed information

There are two memorials is within the parish churchyard. The first is for World War 1 and takes the form of a stone Latin Cross with a Sword of Sacrifice on the shaft resting on a stepped base. This memorial contains 6 names from World War 1 and was buolt at a cost of £41 10s and unveiled on 25th September 1921; details can be found in the East Anglian Daily Times 26th September 1921. The second is for World War 2 and takes the form of a stone plaque affixed to the post of the churchyard gate. This memorial contains 2 names for World War 2.

Private 49819, 4th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Died 08/02/1919. Age 19. Son of Robert and Jane Collins of Prospect House, Felixstowe. Buried at Boussu Communal Cemetery. The cause of death of Private Collins is unknown

CROWFOOT

Clement Henry

Private 27227, 7th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers. Died 04/01/1917. Age 40. Son of Mr W Crowfoot of Swilland. Buried at Etaples Military Cemetery

Arthur Ernest

Rifleman 9925, 3rd Battalion, Rifle Brigade. Died 25/10/1914. Age 31. Son of Arthur Hunt of The Half Moon Inn, Swilland. Husband of Annie Edith Iles (formerly Hunt) of 27 Melford Road, Leytonstone, London. Buried at Bailleul Communal Cemetery (Nord)

Driver 171037, 93rd Battery, 280th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Died 11/10/1918. Age 37. Son of William and Sarah Reynolds of High Road, Swilland. Buried at Bucquoy Road Cemetery, Ficheux

Private 43904, 9th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Died 04/12/1917. Born at Witnesham. Buried at the Rocquigny-Equancourt Road British Cemetery, Manancourt
