Shipmeadow is a small village on the Beccles to Bungay road. The lynch gate remains and is the parish’s First World War memorial and bears the names of those that did not return from WW1. The church itself was made redundant around 1970’s and sold off for private housing however the people that live there allow access to the churchyard.

HARLEY	Omar Edward	Omar Edward Harley. Battery Sergeant Major 38739, 48th Reserve Battery, Royal Field Artillery. Died 13 Dec 1916. Buried near south east corner of Shipmeadow (St Bartholomew Churchyard).

SMITH	Cecil Reuben	Cecil Reuben Whitley Smith. Private G/24463 1st Bn. The Queen’s (Royal West Surrey Regiment). Died 3 Nov 1916. Commemorated at Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. Pier & Face 5D & 6D.
SUMNER	Walter	Gunner 123966 “D” Battery, 95th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Son of John Sumner of Ormskirk, Lancs. Husband of Maud Jane Sumner of Church Farm, Shipmeadow, Beecles, Suffolk. Died 9 Sept 1918, aged 33. Buried in Rocquigny-Equancourt Road British Cemetery, Manancourt, Somme, France. Plot X111. Row C. Grave 14.
THIRKETTLE, MM	John [William]	Private 2839, 7th Bn. The Buffs (East Kent Regiment). Awarded the Military Medal (M.M.). Son of Wm. and Jane Laura Thirkettle, of 20, Marsh Farm, Thorington, Darsham, Suffolk. Died 29 Sept 1917, aged 25. Buried in Nine Elms British Cemetery, West Vlaanderen, Belguim. Plot II. Row D. Grave 12.
