While at anchor in Scapa Flow, on 9th July 1917, HMS Vanguard suffered an enormous explosion, believed to have been set off by unstable cordite. Only three of her crew of over 800 survived |

On 18th March 1915, the battlecruiser HMS Inflexible was involved in the bombardment of Dardanelles forts. She began to withdraw after receiving 9 hits from shells and then struck a mine. She was firstly beached to effect emergency repairs before proceeding to Malta |
