Died from wounds sustained in action off the Dutch Coast on the 17 October 1914 when four German Torpedo Boats were sunk. Aged 19. Born 21 January 1895 in Norwich, Norfolk. Son of John and Alexandra Langlands, of 500, London Rd., Lowestoft. In the 1901 census he is aged 6, born Norwich, Norfolk, resident with his parets, John T and Alexandra, at The Hermitage, Layham, Cosford, Suffolk. Prior to enlistment he was a Gardener's Assistant. Enlisted 21 January 1913 for 12 years, heght 5 feet 7 inches, chest 35½ inches, brown hair, blue eyes, fair complexion. Buried in LOWESTOFT (KIRKLEY) CEMETERY, Suffolk. Plot/Row/Section N. Grave 91. Note: H.M. Drifter Launch Out built 1909, 67 tons. Hired 1915. Sunk by gunfire from German destroyers in the Dover Strait 27th October 1916. She was part of the large fleet that maintained the net barrage across the Dover Strait to prevent German submarines passing westward into the Channel. They were also equipped to attack U Boats as well as maintain the barrage.

Launch Out was in company with the drifters Young Crow, EBC, Ajax II, Mishe Nahama and IFS in the vicinity of 9a buoy along the barrage when they were attacked by the destroyers. Ajax II and Launch Out were sunk, EBC was damaged. Buoy 9a was at the southern end of the Sandettie Bank.
