The
War Memorial stands at a road junction in the centre of the village,
on the edge of the village green, and takes the form of an obelisk mounted
on a square plinth upon which the names and inscription reside which
is again mounted on a stepped base. The memorial was unveiled by Capt.
E H W Backhouse on 24th October 1920, it cost £20 and the builders
were Messrs. S. B. Peagrum. It commemorates the men from the village
who fell in the First and Second World Wars. The men are listed by surname,
forenames, rank and Regiment or force. The names have been sorted into
alphabetical order for ease of reading. Note that although Ezekiel Sore's
name appears with the two men who died in World War 2 he actually died
in World War 1.
