For conspicuous gallantry during an attack. He went forward three hundred yards with an officer and three men and rushed a machine-gun nest of two guns, one of which he got in action against the retreating enemy. Later, he showed great grasp of the situation by filling up a gap in the defence and coolly organising the line. He behaved splendidly.
