FARNHAM WAR MEMORIAL

The War Memorials are situated inside the parish church and take the form of two plaques. The World War 1 plaque is made from brass and commemorates three men from World War 1, it was cast by Mr P F Alexander. The World War 2 plaque is made from marble and conatins ther names of four men.

1914-1918

Gunner 86279, 162nd Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. Died 09/05/1917. Age 28. Son of Mrs A Coates of Farnham. Buried at La Targette British Cemetery, Neuville-St Vaast

NEWSON

Amos William

rivate 24154, 7th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Died 10/04/1917. Age 23. Only son of William and Laura Edith Newson of "Old Parsonage, Farnham. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial

Gunner 962426, 135 (The Hertfordshire Yeomanry) Field Regiment, Royal Artillery. Died 15/10/1943. Age 23. Son of Elijah and Mary Spink, of Farnham. husband of Dorothy Mary Spink of Farnham. Buried at Chungkai War Cemetery

Flying Officer (Pilot) 67109, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, 418 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force. Died 20/05/1942. Age 30. Son of Sir Newton John Stabb Kt, OBE, and of Lady Stabb (nee Townsend) of Sarratt, Hertfordshire. Buried at Amersfoort (Oud Leusden) General Cemetery. At the time of Flying Officer Stabb’s death, 418 Squadron were flying Bostons on sorties over Europe

Platoon Commander, 8th Suffolk Battalion, Home Guard. Died 05/04/1941. Age 55. Son of the Revd Canon E J A Winter DD and Horatia Winter. husband of Phyllis Winter of Farnham Old Vicarage. Buried at Farnham (St Mary) Churchyard. Platoon Commander Winter’s death is recorded at Ipswich
