The memorial takes the form of a Celtic Cross on a three stepped base to the right of the entrance gate of St. John the Baptist Church, Mill Lane, Wetley Rocks and commemorates the fallen from the two world wars. There are 17 names listed for World War 1 and 4 for World War 2.

Born Derby, resident Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire, enlisted Stafford. Son of William and H. Appleby, of Richmond Farm Hill, Dilhorne, Staffordshire. Buried in St. Ledger British Cemetery, France. Row C. Grave 5.
BOWYER Moses
Private 41626, 10th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment formerly 28319, North Staffordshire Regiment. Killed in action 4th October 1917. Aged 31. Born Thorncliffe, Staffordshire, resident Wetley Rocks, Staffordshire, enlisted Stoke-On-Trent. Son of late Moses and Harriet Bowyer, of Under Bank Farm, Thorncliffe, Leek, Staffordshire, husband of Mary Louisa Bowyer, of White Fields, Wetley Rocks, Staffordshire. No known grave. Commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 52 to 54.

Private 50166. 11th Battalion, Essex Regiment formerly 61705, North Staffordshire Regiment. Killed in action 17th October 1918. Born Brown Edge, Staffordshire, resident Wetley Rocks, Staffordshire, enlisted Leek, Staffordshire. Buried in Premont British Cemetery, Aisne, France. Plot V. Row A. Grave 15.

Private 4639, “B” Company, 1st/5th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry. Killed in action 17th September 1916. Aged 20. Born and resident Wetley Rocks, Staffordshire, enlisted Leek. Son of Robert and Jane Chadwick, of Wetley Rocks, Stoke-on-Trent. No known grave. Commemorated on Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. Pier and Face 14 A and 15 C.
COTTERILL Frederick Arthur
Private G/29285, 7th Battalion, Buffs (East Kent Regiment). Killed in action 19th September 1918. Aged 18. Born and resident Cheddleton, Staffordshire, enlisted Leek, Staffordshire. Son of Arthur and Elizabeth Cotterill, of Mosey Moor Farm, Cheddleton, Staffs. Buried in Ste. Emilie Valley Cemetery, Villers-Faucon, Somme, France. Plot III. Row F. Grave 5.
CREYKE Eric B
Private M2/101016, 972nd Mechanical Transport Coy. Army Service Corps. Killed as a result of an accident on active service on 17th December 1917. Born 1895 as Thomas Eric Basil Creyke, son of George Marshall and Fanny Creyke of Wetley Abbey. Prior to joining the Army Creyke was serving his apprenticeship with the New Hall Pottery Company in Hanley, he was educated at the Hanley Secondary School. Buried in the Ramleh War Cemetery, Israel and Palestine (including Gaza). Section G. Grave 45.
DEVEREAUX Thomas
[Spelt DEVEREUX on SDGW] Private 032360, 137th Company, Army Ordnance Corps. Died on service 9th October 1918. Aged 30. Born Ipstones, Staffordshire, enlisted Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire. Son of George and Emma Devereaux, husband to Hermia, married 1908. Buried in Arquata Scrivia Communal Cemetery Extension, Italy. Plot I. Row C. Grave 11.
GIBSON Ralph
Driver 771873, 52nd Battery (Territorial Force), Royal Field Artillery. Killed in action 10th October 1917. Aged 23. Born and enlisted Leeks, Staffordshire. Son of Mr and Mrs J. Gibson of Rownall Farm, Wetley Rocks, Staffordshire. Buried in La Clytte Military Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Plot III. Row D. Grave 20.
GOLDSTRAW Ralph
Corporal PO/16513, 1st Royal Marine Battalion, Royal Marine Light Infantry. Died from Double Pnuemonia as a Prisoner of War in Limburg, Germany, 23rd December 1918, captured 28th April 1917 in Gavrelle. Born 6th January 1894 in Wetley Rocks, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Baptised 15th September 1895 in Wetley Rocks, St John the Baptist, son of Henry and Sarah Goldstraw. Brother of Mrs Annie Tatton. 76 West Street, Leek Staffs. Enlisted 25th September 1912 in Birmingham. Church of England. Height 5 feet 5¾ inches, fresh complexion, brown eyes, brown hair. Buried in the Hamburg Cemetery, Hamburg, Germany. Plot II. Row H. MEAR Edward
Private 23293, 8th (Service) Battalion, York And Lancaster Regiment. Killed in action 1st July 1916. Born Wetley Rocks, enlisted Sheffield. Buried in Blighty Valley Cemetery, Authuille Wood, Somme, France. Plot V. Row C. Grave 11.

[Incorrectly listed as 92196 on CWGC] Private 92198, 9th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment) formerly T/4/186107, Royal Army Service Corps. Killed in action 25th November 1917. Aged 31. Born Cheadle, Staffordshire, resident Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire, enlisted Longton, Staffordshire. Son of Joseph and Harriet Morris, of Cellarhead, Stoke-on-Trent. Buried in Loos British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. Plot XX. Row B. Grave 25.

Private G/21450, 1st/4th Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment. Killed in action 23rd July 1918 after heavy shelling at Parcy Tigny. Aged 21. Born Hansey, Staffordshire, enlisted Grove Park, Kent. PICKFORD Ernest E
Gunner 152263, “B” Battery. 148th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Died from his wounds at 4pm, 23rd July 1917. Aged 25. Pickford was badly injured in the left leg and buttock when taking ammunition to the guns and died later in the day. Son of Joseph and Harriet Pickford of 17, Livingstone Street, Leek, Staffordshire. Buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Plot XVI. Row C. Grave 20.

MEYRICK Joseph
Driver 287177, Royal Army Service Corps. Died of wounds in NOrth Africa 17th November 1942. Aged 36. Born Staffordshire, resident Stok-On-Trent. Son of Thomas and Mary Ann Meyrick; husband of Doris Annie Meyrick, of Codsall, Staffordshire. Meyrick had been a member of the Cheddleton, St John's Ambulance Brigade since 1928. Buried in Tabarka Ras Rajel War Cemetery, Tunisia. Plot 3. Row D. Grave 4.
JACKSON George Ronald

Guardsman 2622401, 5th Battalion Grenadier Guards. Died from his wounds 25th January 1944. Aged 22. Son of John Stephen and Edith Lillie Jackson, of Wetley Rocks, Staffordshire. Jackson had volunteered three years previous for service, he was educated at Wetley Rocks Primary School and later Alleynes Grammar School, Stone, before being employed by Mr Harold Bednall an accountant in Hanley. Buried in Anzio War Cemetery, Italy. Plot IV. Row B. Grave 1.

Extract from Staffordshire Sentinel - Thursday 10 February 1944, page 1:

Guardsman Jackson, who is reported to have died of wounds was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Jackson. The Croft, Wetley Rocks. He volunteered for service three years ago, when employed at a local factory. He had previously been employed by Mr Harold J Bednall, accountant, Hanley Educated at the Wetley Rocks School, and later at the Alleynes Grammar School Stone, he was a prominent member of the Methodist Church at Wetley Rocks. His father Mr. J. S. Jackson, is Commander of the Wetley Rocks Platoon of the Home Guard, of which Guardsman Jackson was formerly a member. A memorial service will be held at the Methodist Church, Wetley Rocks, on Sunday, February 20th.

DEVEREAUX George
Corporal 2184019, 6th Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers. Died of wounds in Western Europe 12th September 1944. Aged 27. Born Staffordshire, resident Stoke-On-Trent. Son of Mr & Mrs Devereaux of Mount Pleasant, Cheddleton, Staffordshire and husband of Joyce Devereaux of Llanelly. Buried in Geel War Cemetery, Antwerpen, Belgium. Plot II. Row B. Grave 6.
TURNER James W
Fusilier 4921661, 11th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers. Killed in action in Italy 16th October 1944. Aged 29. Son of James Willott and Annie Turner; husband of Caroline Ann Turner of Cheddleton Staffordshire. Buried in the Faenza War Cemetery, Italy. Plot VII. Row G. Grave 12.
