World War 1 & 2 - Detailed Information
Compiled & Copyright © Martin Edwards 2022

The memorial takes the form of a cenotaph and is to be found at the East end of George Square, opposite the entrance of City Chambers, George Square, Glasgow. It was unveiled by Field Marshal The Earl Haig, KT, GCB, OM, GCVO, KCIE, on 31 May 1924 and was dedicated on the same day by local clergy and diginataries. There are no names listed on the cenotaph. The memorial takes the form of a large cenotaph with a bronze sword, set into the face near the top, and the city seal featuring a figure of St Mungo is carved above the inscription. In front, a stone sarcophagus set into the ground bears a carved wreath, and the cenotaph is surrounded by a small three-sided wall flanked by two couchant guardant lions.
