The memorial is to be found within Great Hale Cemetery, Little Hale Road (B1394), Great Hale, Lincolnshire. It takes the form of a stone obelisk with the dedication and names in lead lettering on the front face of the plinth, the whole being mounted on a single step, secured on a square base of concrete and surrounded by low railings. The memorial was first unveiled and dedicated on 1 April 1923 with Capt. Pattinson, Mr Joseph Hall, Revd. E. Trevett, Mr W. Southern, Rev Frederick McKenzie, and parishioners present. There are seventeen names listed in total, fourteen for World War 1 and three for World War 2.

HESSELL	Walter	Private 5410, 1st Battalion, Coldstream Guards. Killed in action at Ypres 29 October 1914. Born Great Hale, Lincolnshire, resident Hammersmith, Middlesex, enlisted Sleaford. Originally attested 8 February 1904 in Sleaford, aged 19 years 7 months. Baptised 28 September 1884 in Great Hale, son of JohnTHompson and Matilda Hessell. In the 1891 census he was aged 6, born Great Hale, Lincolshire, son of John T and Matilda Hessell, resident Great Hale, Sleaford, Lincolnshire. In the 1901 census he was aged 16, born Great Hale, Lincolshire, an Ordinary Agricultural Labourer, son of John and Matilda Hessell, resident Hale Magna, Great Hale, Sleaford, Lincolnshire. In the 1911 census he was aged 26, born Great Hale, Lincolnshire, a Police Constable boarding at Little Bytham Grantham, Little Bytham, Lincolnshire. He married in Fulham Registration District, London, in the January to March Quarter 1912, either Norah M Smith or Eliza A Turner. Religious denomination Church of England. He appears to have been a Reservist who became a Policeman in London and was recalled to service at the start of the war. No known grave. WOODS	Charles	Private 45622, 2nd Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment). Killed in action 11 October 1918. Born Sleaford, Lincs and enlisted Derby, Derbyshire. Married Gertie Louisa Ride Smith on 1 March 1903, they had the following children, Charles Richard, Frederick William, Doris Maud, Elsie May, Constance Evelyn, and Elizabeth Gwendoline Woods; all born in Derby with Elizabeth's address at birth being 24, Stanhope Street, Derby. In 1921 Gertie, Doris, Elsie, Connie and Elizabeth are still at that address. Also in the house is David Keery her future husband. Gertie Louisa Woods is named on the World War 1 pension ledger. WOODS	William	Private 24168, 1st Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers formerly 23441, Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment). Killed in action 1 July 1916. Born Old Sawley, enlisted Derby. Married Elizabeth Freeman in 1903 and parents Henry Freeman/Mary Hannah Johnson. William is on the 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911 census. The children were William born prior to marriage in 1902, Eliza Rose Woods, John Henry Woods, Albert Woods and Mary Woods. His wife Elizabeth died later that year. The pension Ledgers show Henry Freeman as the guardian of the children and they are together on the 1921 census. Buried in REDAN RIDGE CEMETERY NO.2, BEAUMONT-HAMEL, Somme, France. Row C. Grave 23.
