The Mentrie
war memorial is to be found In the corner of a park alongside the
Menstrie Burn, Midtown Gardens Park, Main Street East, Menstrie, Clackmannanshire.
It takes the form of a tall pillar set on a square plinth and octagonal
base; on the 6 o'clock face are a cast wreath enclosing a Saltire
with two plaques below. A further Polish
troops plaque was added between 2007 and 2019. There are 26 names
listed for World War 1, 5 names for the service men of World War 2
and one name of a civilian in the Merchant Navy killed in World War
2. The memorial was unveiled in 1922. The names here are sorted into
alphabetical order for ease of reading and research. Note that the
details reorded on the memorial are the units the men joined initially
and not when they died; the distinguishing between Mac.. and Mc...
is also very vague.
More
information is available about the war memorial from the Clackmannanshire
Community website.
